The long-term benefits of engaged employees
Organizations have to step up EX strategies so that major disruptors do not become major challenges
Workplaces have been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, but an overall drive toward more flexible working means organizations must find new ways to engage employees for better retention and business outcomes. Nadia Younes, former global head of employee experience, diversity and wellbeing at Zurich Insurance, told CX Network Live: Employee Experience 2022 that the need to improve EX will outlast any impact from the pandemic.
She said that while many businesses fostered a culture of valued customers, the notion of valued employees could be neglected. Treating employees like “widgets” would lead to high staff turnover, which affects revenue, Younes said. The trend toward remote and hybrid working was here to stay and employers needed to adapt, she added.
“Remote working used to be treated as a pariah,” said Younes, adding that “valuable, meaningful, purposeful work” is the preferred option. Organizations need to find solutions for remote problem-solving and use collaborative tools to create supportive “virtual communities”.
