In 2010, more than 50% of the world’s population were living in cities. By 2050, that majority is expected to stretch to 70%. As the 4.5 billon inhabitants of Asia make up nearly 60% of the world’s population, the governments and business leaders of Asian countries are increasingly focusing on achieving truly innovative urban design, spearheaded by the concept of so-called ‘smart cities’.
